Chapter 13
The return to Blackmoor was triumphant—but Sera felt the weight of it all pressing down on her with every step. The Crown sat in a protected case, its power dormant now, but she could still feel it humming against her awareness like a second pulse.
The pack gathered as they entered the territory. Word had spread—somehow, it always did—and hundreds of wolves stood along the path to the palace, watching in silence as their King and the Lunaris Queen walked side by side.
Then, one by one, they knelt.
Not for Kael. For her.
Sera's throat tightened. She'd spent her entire life being looked through, looked down on, dismissed. And now—hundreds of wolves, fierce and proud, bowing their heads in recognition of what she was.
Kael's hand found hers, squeezing once. Grounding her.
---
The mating ceremony was set for the full moon—three days away. But first, there was business to settle.
The Elder Council arrived the next morning—five ancient wolves, their power muted but their authority absolute. They examined the Crown, questioned Sera and Kael separately, reviewed Dr. Maren's bloodwork analysis and the historical texts.
By afternoon, they delivered their verdict.
"Sera Whitmore is hereby recognized as the sole surviving heir of the Lunaris bloodline," the Head Elder declared, his voice carrying through the great hall. "Her sovereign status is confirmed. No pack may claim dominion over her. The Hale pack's petition is permanently dismissed, and Alpha Dominic Hale is placed under formal censure for his actions."
Sera stood tall, her chin lifted, feeling the words settle over her like armor.
"Furthermore," the Elder continued, "the bonding between the Lunaris heir and Alpha King Kael Blackmoor is sanctioned by this Council. May the Moon bless their union."
It was done. Official. Irrevocable.
That evening, Sera stood on the palace balcony, watching the sun set over Blackmoor's forests. The territory stretched endlessly before her—wild, beautiful, alive. Hers now, too.
Kael appeared behind her, his arms sliding around her waist, his chin resting on her shoulder.
"How does it feel?" he murmured against her ear. "Being recognized?"
"Strange," she admitted. "Good. But strange." She leaned back into him. "Six weeks ago, I was bleeding on a riverbank. And now—"
"And now you're a queen about to be mated to the most powerful Alpha alive," Kael finished. She could hear the smirk in his voice.
She elbowed him lightly. "Don't get cocky."
He chuckled—a rare, warm sound that made her chest ache in the best way. "Too late."
She turned in his arms, looking up at him. His silver eyes, usually so cold and guarded, were soft. Open. Hers.
"Kael." Her voice dropped to a whisper. "Thank you. For saving me that night. For seeing me when no one else did."
He pressed his lips to her forehead, lingering. "You saved yourself, Sera. I just gave you a place to do it."
---
That night, as Sera walked to her room, a small envelope had been slipped beneath her door. She opened it with steady hands.
Inside was a single pressed flower—white moonblossom, the Lunaris symbol—and a note in elegant script:
*"Congratulations on your Crown, Your Majesty. But crowns can be taken. Thrones can fall. Enjoy your victory while it lasts. — V"*
Sera stared at the note, her blood running cold. Vanessa. Diminished but not defeated. Stripped of power but not of hatred.
She crumpled the paper in her fist, golden light flickering at her fingertips.
*Let her come,* her wolf growled. *We're ready.*
Sera set the note on fire with a single thought, watching it turn to ash in her palm.
Tomorrow was her mating ceremony. Tomorrow, she would stand beside Kael and claim her place in the world once and for all.
And if Vanessa—or anyone else—tried to take this from her, they would learn exactly what a Lunaris queen was capable of.
