Chapter 13
**Sera's POV**
I held the severance stone between my fingers and felt its ancient hum vibrate through my palm.
Before me, Kael was on his knees. The most powerful Alpha of the Northern Ridge Pack, broken apart in front of five hundred witnesses.
Three years ago, this sight would have destroyed me. I would have run to him, held him, forgiven everything.
But I was no longer that woman.
"I, Seraphina Blackwood, heir of the Crescent Blackwood lineage—" My voice filled the Great Hall, steady and absolute. "—formally sever the fated-mate bond with Alpha Kael Voss of the Northern Ridge Pack."
A gasp rippled through the crowd. Severing a fated bond was rare — painful — and permanent. No second chances. No reversal.
Kael's eyes were wild. "Sera, wait — WAIT. You don't have to do this. We can talk. We can—"
"This bond was built on silence," I said. "On my silence. My obedience. My disappearance." I closed my fist around the stone. "I refuse to carry it any longer."
Then — a commotion at the hall's entrance.
The doors burst open, and a woman stumbled through. Small, golden-haired, her face flushed and frantic.
Mina.
She was being held by two Blackwood guards, struggling like a trapped animal. Her eyes darted wildly until they found Kael.
"Kael!" she screamed. "Tell them to let me go! I came to help you!"
Every head turned.
My father rose from his seat, his expression thunderous. "Who allowed this wolf entry?"
The head guard stepped forward. "She breached the southern checkpoint, Alpha Supreme. She was carrying forged credentials claiming to be part of the Northern Ridge delegation."
I looked at Mina — truly looked at her — for the first time.
She was pretty. Young. Everything I'd stopped being for Kael.
And right now, she was staring at me with naked hatred.
"You." Mina's voice shook. "You're the one who ruined everything. Kael was *fine* before you pulled this disappearing act. He was happy with me!"
The hall went deathly quiet.
Kael's face drained of color. "Mina, stop—"
"No!" She yanked against the guards. "You promised me! You said once she was gone, I'd be your Luna. You said she was boring, that you didn't want her anymore—"
"SHUT UP!" Kael's roar shook the rafters. His eyes were blazing with panic and fury. "That's not—I never said—"
But the damage was done.
Five hundred wolves had heard it. The murmurs grew louder.
I tilted my head slightly. "You promised her the Luna position?"
"No." Kael's voice was desperate. "She's lying. I never—"
"He did," Mina spat, tears streaming. "He told me two months ago, before she left. He said it was only a matter of time before he ended things with his boring mate and—"
"ENOUGH." My father's command cracked like thunder. Every wolf fell silent.
I felt nothing. Not surprise. Not hurt. Only the quiet satisfaction of having my instincts confirmed.
I turned back to Kael. "Do you deny it?"
He opened his mouth. Closed it. His silence was answer enough.
"I see." I raised the severance stone. "Then let this end with the truth between us."
I pressed the stone to my chest and spoke the final words.
"By blood and shadow, by the Moon Goddess who bound us — I *sever.*"
Pain ripped through me — white-hot, blinding. I felt the bond snap like a steel cable, the recoil shuddering through every nerve.
Across from me, Kael screamed. He collapsed forward, clutching his chest, gasping.
And then — silence.
The bond was gone.
Where there had once been a golden thread connecting me to him — warmth, awareness, belonging — there was now simply... nothing.
Empty space. Clean air.
Freedom.
I opened my eyes and steadied my breathing.
Nyx stood tall inside me, unshaken. *"It's done."*
Kael lay on the floor of my hall, gasping, broken. Tears streaked his face.
"Sera..." His voice was a ruin. "Please..."
I looked down at him and felt — nothing.
"Guards." I tucked the spent stone into my pocket. "Escort Alpha Voss and his... companion off Blackwood territory."
I turned my back on him for the final time.
Behind me, Mina's screams echoed off stone walls as she was dragged away.
And Kael's broken whisper followed me like a ghost:
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry..."
The doors closed.
I kept walking.
