Belle settles in a basement apartment after some family takes the main one. She has encounters with different people, including a flower shop owner Gonzalo who gives her flowers and acts strangely when she asks for red daisies.
She also meets a handsome man Nikolai, and they have an interaction that makes her feel a strong attraction. Belle starts a job at St. Mary's School for kids with special needs with the help of Dylan, her best friend's half-brother. She offers to take care of her upstairs neighbor Loraine's son Sawyer, who is recovering from a car accident and is depressed.
At a club, Belle is drugged by Jared but is saved by Volkov (Nikolai). She later realizes Nikolai's identity and thanks him, and they share kisses and plan to have pizza at her apartment. The story unfolds with elements of romance, friendship, and new experiences in Belle's life in New York.
